...she speaks from her breast....

by Olivia Weinkein

she speaks from her breast
you want to love her because
starting over is easy

(& i knew a guy once who talked
with his hands, could finger himself
into just about anything)

i wanted to tell you, i find back doors
comforting. that's all. just that.
Oh, and that your scars are beautiful.

once, a long time ago, i found out
the difference between sex and making
love, so the next time you fuck someone

watch to see if afterwards, they
immediately cover up. then hit the road
because we all know, it really doesn't matter much

(& i think the smiles of strangers are flowers
yet to be picked or stomped upon, people
are so much friendlier when they don't know you yet)

i love autumn and puppies and holding your hand,
and i am determined to find something special
in this moment right here even if it kills me or

saves your life & her eyes are filled with
suicide as i play with my hands and i feel a bit
contagious in this soft night, anything can happen

anything, & i wrote a poem once about that,
another about forgiveness, another about giving in
they all ended the same way, all said the same thing

& i don't know you anymore, but your underwear
have been living under my bed for a while now
i will burn them when i find them, just because

& i've decided to start wishing upon airplanes
they are so much more common than
shooting stars and UFOs and you'll never know

this about me or how i like my coffee, the
commercials that make me cry, and i will
never realize the ugly growing inside of you

(& she's all smiles and sex and forgiveness
and he's an acrobat with no strings attached
& i'm just here, sitting in the corner

writing to myself)

Olivia, your honesty here is profound, the flow is so natural...I feel it in my core, thank you.

there's so many lines i want to quote..because that's always what i seem to do. just know that my face was rapt with attention the whole time. & i love your writing.

this is really cool. it has beautiful mixed with ugly mixed with innuendo and blatant reference. very cool
