come the morning

by Maria Francesca

It's twilight
and I find myself
looking westward into the sunset.
Come the morning
I'll be facing east
and just as I do now,
I'll know you're there beside me
looking in the same direction -
this is as ever it is:
I know every moment
we face life from the same direction -
when you are cut
I ache
and when I am cut
I feel your comfort.
I breathe into your heart
and you breathe into mine.
I know that sure as gravity
you will never turn away from me
or try to turn me away from you.
You know I'll never give up
on you
on me
on us.
Tonight
we will kiss
and we will dance
and we will eat expensive cake.
Tomorrow
and tomorrow
and tomorrow
we will kiss
and we will work
and we will rest
and at twilight
I'll find myself
facing westward into the sunset.
Come the morning...
well,
you know.

This is a beautiful, ascending spiral. I feel priviledged to glimpse it.
