that lovely, round, blue pill --
no-no-no, not the one you're thinking --
this one stops the doubts and deadlines
spinning in my head;
it sends the ocean liner of my troubles
gently sinking
to the bottom of egyptian cotton oceans
in my bed;

it eases me past mortgage icebergs,
saves me from ex-boyfriend sharks,
and gently guides me past the ghosts
of unpaid credit bills;
so I bless the little tablet
as it wraps me in the dark--
and say a prayer of thanks
for cozy beds and sleeping pills.
