we all search

by Charlie Morgan

it's a lazy sun this morning,
as it climbs on the coat-tail
of the up-coming baby day.

chasing darkness westward
until it drops in the Pacific
and the sea lions, eat-laze.

just another day in the world;
we call it a name: Wednesday,
other creatures have other names.

countable but not meant to be,
the days roll off like dominoes
falling into each other; slam.

joel is tugging, dragging the day
along behind him, broom in hand;
his day is no different than mine:

both searching for life's meaning.
