Love and Death that Follows by Christopher ShinHold on to the hands
and her pulse flashes,
and for a moment you feel
two souls create a song.
Blink and her soul captivates
the very essence of me,
and then I collide with
the heart.
She flings me through
all the endless dreams.
Yet the tragedy of it all
is that when it ends.
Death comes like a common
friend to collect debt.
The joy is gone,
and the heart bleeds
forever.
She takes the breath
away from the very breast
that you hold onto.
Her promise makes you cry,
but only another wrinkle of the
eye causes you to become cold.
And the winter winds
blows further down into you. 07/21/2008 Posted on 07/21/2008 Copyright © 2025 Christopher Shin

Posted by Gabriel Ricard on 07/21/08 at 02:21 PM I really, really like those last two lines. The imagery throughout is captivating, and I think that last stanza pulls us back out brilliantly. |
