knowledge: it'll cost you

by Charlie Morgan

Mary Oliver darted
around the corner;
she was being chased
by a new friend, the
one she hadn't met yet.

i always knew that was
gonna get her in trouble;
i'm just sayin', 'you
gotta be careful out there!'
can't trust everybody.

my granpa taught me that,
along with Biblical things;
tenets to live by, guides
for the journey into every
tomorrow, new days ahead.

'trust a man, when, and only
if he looks ye square in the eyes.
pretty women,too, boy! watch it!
they're sirens of wreckage.
i'm just saying, boy.

I think I always meant to acquire my knowledge by watching the Mary's forge ahead, but then, it's not in my nature to just sit still for very long. Hehe.

Love the specifics of this, and yet it's got its playful mysterious quality too. A delightful little family heirloom of a poem that makes relatives (readers) smile.
