Sleep Gnaws at Me

by Joe Cramer

Sleep gnaws at me

I climb from the abyss

Of a dream where I am flying

And end of dying.

Then I wake, in stark remiss

Of what I think I see.

My dreams haunt me.

Beautiful women surround

Me, trying to hold my hand.

I just don't understand.

Look at what I have found.

I am never free,

Lost and forever alone.

I sleep-walk through

The lands of the living.

It is the definitive giving

Of my heart I flew

Past all that I have ever known.
