We Do This (To Do That)

by Gabe Zamora

we work up the courage,
to be shot down.
we do what we must,
to fall to the ground.
we fight for our lives,
to be strangled to death.
we hear them call,
to find we are deaf.
we see it all,
to be blind to the fact.
we run up the walls,
to lie on our faces.
we make these conclusions,
to sit in the ruins.
we try and try and try,
to fail and fail and fail.
we strive for the right,
to wind up all wrong.
we live for today,
to die at night.
we say these things,
to forget the meaning.
we hold eachother close,
to hide from the beatings.
we run away,
to be found the next day.
we play these games,
to lose it all.
we sing these songs,
to be criticized.
we right the wrongs,
to do it again.
we love the other,
to hate the rest.

Sometimes, most times, we love the other to love the rest, No?
