the mother poet looks at nature by Lalo Kikiriki
I found out where
the phoebe nests,
flicking her tail
watching me watch
her three dumpy chicks
not ready to fly
nervously
straddling
the chain-link fence
she thought she had found it
someplace private
way back in the
easement
where nobody goes
someplace safe
from the gardeners
the hawks
the coyotes,
the cats and
the children...
now,
this.
