the mother poet looks at nature

by Lalo Kikiriki

I found out where
the phoebe nests,
flicking her tail
watching me watch
her three dumpy chicks
not ready to fly
nervously
straddling
the chain-link fence

she thought she had found it –
someplace private
way back in the
easement
where nobody goes
someplace safe
from the gardeners
the hawks
the coyotes,
the cats and
the children...

now,
this.

"now, this"

that's a fantastic ending!

I ditto what Meghan said; the ending is just phenomenal!
