Never too late.

by Dave Fitzgerald

When he left to join the army
and left his home behind,
the thing that kept him going
was her picture in his mind.
The smile that played upon her lips
and the sparkle in her eyes.
She was the sun on his horizon
brightening up his skies.

It had been a long time
though they'd never been apart.
They rarely were together,
but together in their hearts.
Seperated by circumstance
and a journey into fate
they realised just how they felt
twenty years too late.

When he'd done his training
he flew off to a war
and the nightmares cut right through him
of the horrors that he saw.
With a sheen of sweat upon his brow
he'd wake up with a start,
so he'd bring her image to his mind
and she'd soothe his crying heart.

It had been a long time
though they'd never been apart.
They rarely were together,
but together in their hearts.
Seperated by circumstance
and a journey into fate
they realised just how they felt
twenty years too late.

They may have been divided
by many years and miles
but the mem'ries never faded
of the early loving smiles.
When the soldier went back home
and met up with some friends
he saw her on his horizon
and his sky lit up again.

It had been a long time
but they'd never been apart.
They'd rarely been together,
but together in their hearts.
Seperated by circumstance
and a journey into fate
they realised when it came to love
it can never be too late.

Awwww, this is just the coolest love song ever. Real love lasts over those years and circumstances, doesn't it?

This has an amazing lyrical presence, Dave. Great rhyme and rhythm from beginning to end and the last two lines changed ever so slightly from the last two in each previous chorus is a very pleasant surprise. Great message too. Bravo!
