Scratching the Itch by Ken HarnischOnce more to the breach
And the pen
Thinking quiet thoughts
That in their tumult
Beneath the eaves
Go unvoiced again
What cataclysms
Hide behind our smiles
Only we know
In the end.
What we fail to
See, or want to know
Are the ones
Going on
Behind the smiles
Looking back at us
I have become
Invested in the secret lives
Of those I meet
And talk to
And scratch them
Without
Their knowing
Hoping to relieve the itch
In at least one of us. 07/10/2008 Posted on 07/10/2008 Copyright © 2024 Ken Harnisch

Posted by Julie Adams on 07/11/08 at 04:27 AM I truly adore this poem...each stanza a thought, a world of its own...I loved the 3rd stanza the most, it brings you full circle and ties the poem together...a pleasure to read, a favorite already :) peace, jewels |
