"The End of the World Will Be Beautiful"

by Max Phineas

Aurora Borealis on Ecstasy
The man in the moon shines,
grinning smugly
at us, the victims of our egos

And days of blazing Sun, Aquamarine Skies
Incandescent clouds glow pink
As they tumble, fast-forward-style, across sharp horizons.

There will be no implosion, no flaming asteroid that
Plummets forth, Coring Earth like an Apple.

A rewind of all life
plays in the heavens
Projecting what we wished we'd done
to prolong these sour skies from falling.

But it will be breathtaking.
Meadows in final bloom fill the air (with the scent
We tried to replace with aerosol substitutes)
And the Man in the Moon will laugh a great belly laugh
We laugh along, with nothing left to do.

In a final instant
All colors ablaze in a passionate last Act.
Blinded by the intensity

We will simply cease.

Callie, you continue to amaze me with your foresight and wisdom. This is wonderfully intense!
