Human no. 4 by Corey Lockabygrasping a small stone
she walks to the pile of wood
sweat begins to spring from her forehead
hand washes head, head bathe hand
but she still feels drilled and sticky
sinking behind it
lights a cigarette
scratches her knuckles
at the forefront of her mind
there is both a needing
and a mantra
that helps, she's found
when she starts thinking lonely thoughts
one day,
not today,
and that's okay
