The Punishment by Alison McKenzieI remember with perfect clarity
The day you made me a
Peanut-butter and mayonnaise sandwich
With lettuce.
I'd a particularly bad attitude.
I was six.
You donned an evil grin
And told me if I was good,
You'd make me a surprise for lunch.
I'm sure in some twisted way,
It was my punishment
For driving you crazy.
Only, it backfired
Because, I liked it.
And to this day,
When Im feeling particularly defiant,
I fix that sandwich
And relish every bite.
