A big, black balloon swallowed the sun.

by Aaron Blair

A balloon descended.
As dark as anything,
and as big as the world,
blotting out the sky.
Important.
But I could blind myself
with just two fingers over my eyes,
make everything else disappear
in an orange haze.
And I'm no one,
a once and future corpse,
an animal like any other,
ready to return to the clay
and the rib that made me.
Every apocalypse is personal.
My universe is the universe,
because I'm the only inhabitant who is me.
