Brother on Active Duty

by Angela Cotterman

Hang yourself, poet,
Langston warns,
or you die,
anyway, without words.

Poet, poet, burning bright.

Feelings turn and twist.
Something of Iraq sets
in the news, in the even
tide of troops home,
dead like words used
too soon.

I worry the short speak
of this night.
