Purity by George Hoernerour leaders from the purity
of a white house
to the capital on the hill
have winked
at the blind eye of law
finding every hole
in the loop of language
to prove their wealthy righteousness
they nod to our bulky business
accepting their due
as they send the sons
and daughters of others
to war on an enemy
that disappears in grains of sand
from arm chairs
we watch
the coliseum of TV
with clean hands
and full stomachs
our moral depravity
as leached from DC
where love is now hate
truth a lie
right is wrong
and freedom sleeps
behind bars
fighting will stop
only when enough have died
that electoral upsets
might endanger
the status quo
or when those in office
have offspring in danger
