She wanted me to be

Her River Guide,

Taking her places,

Holding her hand

Whether it worked out

Or not.

I knew that she did not know

Me at all.

Slams my head against the wall.

I am just not like that.

I'm more of the all or nothing type.

And I know what I write

Reflects that feeling.

She wanted a River Guide

To take her hiking, kayaking,

On some sort of adventure.

Will you sleep in your own tent

Or will you join me in mine.

I know that I am more than that,

Much more than that.

Kayaking in the ocean, or down

A cool Florida stream

Is something I would do

With the love of my life,

Perhaps my wife?

I know that I am not

Some River Guide

Not some friend in need,

Indeed...
