The Lurking Camel

by Steven Craig

Lurking quietly in the dunes, the camel accesses its fate
To cross the hot sands
or to stay put in its own shade

The camel does not think well
being a camel
so it is uncertain

The camel moves its head
its eyes scan the horizon
its brain does not know what a horizon is

The camel thinks once more
Perhaps, the camel will just lay back down
and let the sands come to it.
