Summer

by Richard Vince

She's gentle and beautiful, like
The summer rain for which
I leave my umbrella in my pocket.

She's a long, peaceful evening,
Its beauty increasing as the
Sun sinks slowly below the horizon
Until the merest hint of colour
Fades to reveal countless stars.

Their light is ancient, and yet
It will continue to shine
Long after I cease to be here
To see it. It is as timeless as
Her never fading soul.

She is like summer rain, and
The sunset, and starlight:
A million words of poetry
Just waiting to be written.
