Softly, Into the Ocean

by Joe Cramer

Softly the ocean slaps against the hull,

Gently rocking in summer morning.

Warm sun's rays making my mind still, now lull

Into submission, without such warning

In this same quiet, peaceful summer day.

Waves break freely on wild Atlantic shore.

It seems as if nothing is in the way

Of anything that has gone on before.

Worries wash by like such waves crashing down

As the seagulls in flight flit to and fro.

Such wonderous ocean life now surrounds,

This peace is all I ever want to know.

So softly the ocean touches my soul

In a way that I no longer feel old.

Author's Note: I took my kayak out into the ocean yesterday.... at Mickler's Landing, Ponte Vedra Beach, FL.
