Twelve Pink Roses

by Soulo Jacob Bourgeau

Happy Birthday, Dearest Daughter
For the happiness you bring
I give you twelve pink roses
As you make Momma’s heart sing!

The first rose, Dear McKenna
Is for fun things that we’ve done
For giggles and sweet times to come
That’s the meaning of rose ONE !!

The second rose in this big bunch
Is thanks for your love so true
Whether a kiss goodnight or after lunch
Is why I give rose TWO !!

The third rose for my little gem
Is for the hugs you give to me
Whether all grown up or pulling at Mom’s hem
Is why I give rose THREE !!

The fourth rose is for all your sweet laughs
That make me smile and laugh some more
Whether at a joke or a silly giraffe
That’s the meaning of rose FOUR !!

The fifth rose is for how blessed I am
And happy to be alive
Because you’re such a pretty girl
Is the meaning of rose FIVE !!

The sixth, my sugar pie lamb chop
I give you just for kicks
You make me so happy I jump and hop
That’s the meaning of rose SIX !!

The seventh rose is an easy one
Since you are a gift from heaven
God blessed us so with you, sweet child
That’s why I give rose SEVEN !!

The eighth rose that I give to you
Is simply because you’re great
You are beautiful and so smart too
That’s the meaning of rose EIGHT !!

This ninth rose here, dear precious girl
Is for how proud I am you’re mine
With your cheeks blushed pink and hair a-curl
Is why I give rose NINE !!

The tenth rose shows how proud I am
You are kind to other children
You really are a caring friend
That’s why I give rose TEN !!

The eleventh rose I give to you
To mark this day you came from heaven
For all the joy you bring to my life
Is why I give rose ELEVEN !!

And finally I give rose TWELVE
To make an even dozen
Your love for me makes me smile
And keeps my heart a-buzzin’ !!

Happy Birthday, McKenna!!

Love,

Momma

Author's Note: I ghost-wrote this for my girlfriend Jenae to give to her special needs daughter, McKenna, along with a bouquet of beautiful pink roses. This was my first (and so far only) childrens' piece, and it was a blast to read to her.

How incredibly sweet and touching, my friend.. I could feel the love and excitement all the way out here in the deep, blue Pacific....I am so happy for you all... alisa ;-)
