Unappetizing

by Angela Cotterman

Here I am,
potted plants for the patio
around my feet. Outside,
the mosquitoes reclaim
stagnant water as sacred
summer grounds.
Their Woodstock. Their free-love-
larvae flourish
and will have my blood.
Although, this evening,
hot as it is,
I am more ash than not.
