Rain

by Alison McKenzie

Does anyone else love the rain,
Grey skies and thunderheads,
Cool air crisp and clean,
Puddles and running through
As if no wet in the world
Could compare?

The plop-drops of an applauding sky,
The rhythm of ordered chaos
Hitting every surface,
Trees and the gardens
Drinking their fill,
Rivers dancing with delight
While the brooks babble
And creeks giggle.

I don’t mind the saturation
Of a wet t-shirt
When traded for the abandon
Of a downpour that
Washes away every worry!

If anyone loves the rain,
It would be you and me, babe,
And the way we digress to
Simpler times of laughing
For no other reason
Than the joyous reunion of our greater selves
With that which imbues every living being.
