On My Way Out

by Dan Garcia-Black

Pasadena dive

shattered glass

on the bar

on the floor

people mumbling stories

about broken promises

and slivers of painful

ruined relationships.

Can’t stand the

morose atmosphere.

So, I leave,

taking care

not to step

on the many shards

of broken heart

on my way out.

Seems like I remember scenes like that earlier in my life. Now the heart is still broken, if not the glass on the bar or floor. Thanks for this vivid reminder Dan.
