The Love Affair

by Jane E Pearce

The day I was born

it snowed- red, white,

and blue flakes danced

past the window.

.

How wonderful of you

to welcome me that way.

.

The years to come were gentle

and loving-you were beautiful

without painted  lips,

or swinging hips when the bands

marched by with your banner

waving high.

.

A protective Mother-

arms encircle to repel danger.

I have grown strong to protect you

along side your other sons.

.

I would be proud to be your Knight

and carry your emblem above you-

for my dear Mother- America, I love you.
