The Breakup

by Olivia Weinkein

pale skin flakes
not enough sun or lotion or
time & i feel amazingly ugly
and contagious and exposed
in superficial light

writing you letters you may never read

& is it raining outside if not
it should be i can not afford to be
as empty as this

and I wrote life is all about choices &
i wrote & i wrote but i didn't say it was
about me, i didn't say it was about

you

these planets have me reeling
perhaps i can get off on good behavior
this time &

this time you're the one waiting, waiting,
waiting & i'll never know, i'll never know
what it was all for, what it meant and why
why
why

it still insists on hurting so bad

Well done. I feel this piece. It has the kind of begging-the-question, disjointed feeling you would expect from a woman going through this thing. It expresses beautifully. Thanks
