fizzle out to nothing fights

by Kimberly Bowen

I didn’t mean to look at you that way
Your eyes foretold a frustration
I can’t seem to ever read the right way

Your shirt off, a glisten of sweat just breaking
You look up and say “What!” over the noise
“I just wanted to know where to put this”
I mumble out and point down to my hand

I’m not sure when I developed
That annoying shy dependent mind frame
The look that followed I missed, eyes on the floor
But your voice calmed instantly
I wish I had learned the technique
That hides the face that lets truth out
I’d hold in the face that looks
Like you just kicked my favorite pet

Broken hearted girls never
Completely master their pieces scattered about the floor

Hardened apathetic boys never seem to
Get just who their words will hit

I didn’t mean to look at you that way
My eyes can’t seem to turn from
Anything my little heart aches for

And these fizzle out to nothing fights
Are anything but healing

And the worst part is how none of us ever seem to learn. Really liked this.

Loved the "Broken hearted girls.." line. It's a beautiful truth.
