Old Song

by Ryan Nardi

Take these chains up off me,
down out of me,
desert father.

It's a shame how long we've
played the same refrain
coming up out off me.

Play another;
play the same sad song again,
master carpenter.

Secret civil dances
and holy isotopes
collide ad magnum.

Play and sing the way you used to,
tap your feet in time,
and tell the one
about me.

Tell the song about the me
that needs to tell a song--
and tell and tell.

Some really interesting ideas expressed in this. Most of all, I think I like the idea of trying to get back to something that clearly isn't there anymore. If that makes sense. Good stuff, sir.
