midnight light by Carissa DeweyThe humming diesel
parked outside my window
wakes me,
I heard the driver pull it over
and lock it into park.
I lay there for a moment
and try uncomfortably to reach back
into sleep,
I roll over quietly
look outside-
I can see a woman sitting
oddly close to the drivers side
and four set of arms.
They have been like this
for over an hour now.
And selfishly-
all I can think
is that he would never
park his truck
on this side of the street
and ask me to stay and speak.
