you were predictable even then

by Ava Blu

I predicted it
even though no one listened
as my fingerprints left quite a stain

I knew you’d end that way,
just like we did. just like the time
my father promised to forsake his 20-something girlfriend just for me

even then I knew the radio could never drown it out

you’ll believe I am damaged,
just like your parents warned

and I won’t argue

the pillowcase is filled with your penny feathers,
the ones too light to mend and too heavy to care

I could have made it all up

I could have been there now

but we both know you never thought I was tattered enough
and I never believed you really didn’t have
her wisp of hair between your teeth.

You wrote that last line first, didn't you? Heh. Awesome. As always.

Both ironic and caustically sarcastic! A very emotional reflexion on a relationship gone sour!
