the same blood

by Charlie Morgan

don't be confused. it's just you.
you who think that way, different!
he's my brother, i keep telling you.
sure he's Mexican, still my brother.

don't take him away, not from my side.
we're chasing the same fading rainbow;
we have no time to lose, now or never.
so, take him out of those heavy chains,

the ones we provide for illegals, threats.
a gavel of misunderstanding feeds hate
and discontent, a disenfranchisement of soul
occurs daily as we all scruffle for meaning.

leave Jose alone; Manuel, Elian, Valdez, stop.
all our clothing labels read: Return to Sender.
a wave will wash our families in an ebbing tide;
energy wisping into the Heavens of brotherhood.

Author's Note: this is an appreciative piece to Frank, who should know who he is, his heart for humanity is whole.

This is lovely, and especially pertinent to me since the young man who died this last weekend...his last name was Sanchez, and his brother, Cruz, lives on.
