a couple of seconds longer

by Maria Francesca

I allow myself
to taste each word he writes

to collect each one
like sugar bricks

and use them to build my daydreams.

I allow myself
to pretend he writes them
about me

but only for the half a second it takes
for the nun in my head
to snatch up her ruler
and slap my hands

and I wish
next time
she would wait
just a couple of secons longer.

In a few short lines, you've delighted me. Great read. Thanks.
