somebody numb

by Maria Francesca

you swear that you need it
and when you don't get it
you swear it'll kill you-
it will, if you let it
and maybe it should
and maybe it's good
to let go
and lie down
and be still for awhile
because two steps alone
is like ten thousand miles
and your soul is in pieces
your spirit is gone
and you wish it would stop
but your heartbeat goes on
and with luck you become
somebody numb

there is a definite sad truth to this poem that i think we've probably all found at some point in our lives. i love honest, gut punching poems like this one. they remind us of life's little lessons...one of the toughest ones right here. well done...brief, piercing and to the point.

this is very well articulated and its a hard thing to articulate. i don't think a lot of people ever get that two steps alone are like ten thousand miles for some people.

No wonder Pink Floyd sold so many copies of 'Comfortably numb.'
