kentucky whiskey

by Frank Lee

Late one night,
can't remember details.

I was talking nonsense with a local
who couldn't get beyond retail.

she was a
little sister
of someone
who was off somewhere...

and i was an
illusion
trying to distract the whole operation
from collusion.

talk was innocent.

stakes were low.

i caught a glance of my reflection
but
the cameras wouldn't know.

it was

another tuesday

another july

another anthem

we were all high.

she said,

"i love you"

I said,

"sure"

she said,

"it's over"

i said,

"no more"

it were gloomy,
it were dry

it were stormy,
i was high.

we were together,
we were no more.

we were forever,
we were the score.

so it were.

another moonlight in the abyss
another chance at bliss
another role to dismiss
another ass to kiss.

and so,
we laugh at shortcomings
we joke at the offering,
we dream of something,
it all comes back nothing.

maybe i was who you are,
born a superstar.

laugh,
prowl,

dream out loud.
