Dream

by Richard Vince

Sleep soundly. Let everything evaporate
From your soul and let peace descend
Like a blanket to keep you warm.

Rest your spirit on a bed of love,
An oasis of stability in a world
Of sinking sand.

Dream...

Follow the scent of the ink to
The shade of an oak in new leaf,
A shade sufficiently incomplete to
Allow the Sun to caress your collarbone.

Like the leaves, the year of the grass
Is but young; too young to commence its
Annual attack on your nose and eyes.

Follow with your eyes the lines on the
Page, teased like wool from ink...
Contact, curl, pull, dry, repeat...
Making memories of feelings permanent,
Indelible, somehow more real than they were
Before they became words.

Cradle the pen in your small hand.
Handle it with care: you hold
A lethal weapon, a blade that can
Pierce the hardest heart, concentrating
Infinite feelings into an
Infinitesimal point.

Fill endless pages with words as
The light turns slowly from white
To yellow to orange to red,
Reflecting from the intricate lines of
Shiny black, refracting in the tiny stars
That fall from your eyes, turning
Liquid despair into rainbows of hope.

Let all the stars in the heavens
Reveal themselves and outnumber
All the fears held deep in your heart
And outshine all the tears streaming
Down your cheeks.

Let the celestial choir sing you to sleep.

Wake gently. Let the early sunlight kiss
Your forehead, and tell you that
You are beautiful, and that
You are loved.

Beautifully written! Excellent! Very sentimental and romantic. I am selecting this as one of my favorites.
