Sipping Mint Juleps

by Joe Cramer

Sliding up to the granite bar

Watching everyone all around.

I gaze nonchantly near and far,

Wondering what is to be found.

Another cocktail napkin calls me,

I steal the bartender's pen.

Looking around, what do I see,

But another Mint Julep, once again.

While sipping my Mint Juleps

I am reminded of a time when

They would just slide between my lips,

Slowly, succulently as they begin

To reach amber tentacles into my mind,

My lips purse, shed a shy smile.

I enjoy this liquor, so very fine,

I just might stay here awhile.

So succulently sweet my Mint Julep calls

Washing over my brain in soft caress.

I feel so fine, thoughts flow, my heart stalls,

As my mind is calmed, without stress.

The smile on my face grows as I sip

More sweet nectar from this glass.

Such a taste I imbibe so quick,

A feeling I know will pass.
