Heart of Stone

by Genevieve Sturrock

i am learning
to take great
comfort in the
knowledge that
time softens
all things

even stone
cannot endure
the passage
of time

mountains
rise and
fall and
rise again
as time
lanquidly
blinks
an eye

i once
suffocated
within
hurricanes
of emotion

but now i
barely recall
a whisper
of those events

just a
gentle breeze
refreshingly calm
oddly soothing

and i cling
to that
comfort
as a new
hurricane
blows in

time will
soften
all things
even
perhaps
your
heart

Author's Note: a concept that sounded good in my mind...but lacked strength when i put it to paper...

...genevieve, i think the concept came thru, i too have your feelings of 'somethin' lacking' but this one gets there...i saw segue of phases and stages[of growth] going on during this traipse through a/your life...too i wonder will time wear a heart soft...charlie

Ah, I know all too well about hearts of stone. My psychologist nicknamed my husband 'The Stone Man'. Thank you for this well written piece.

I think we all know someone like this! I like this concept and your execution here! MFS

I love the comparisons here. Stone erodes yes in time to sand. Even stone my friend, even stone turns to dust. Wonderful reading this. Thank you for sharing. You struck the "universal chord" here.

I have to disagree, I don't think it lacked strength at all. The way time softens all things, it's like water - even a gentle flow will wear every edge down to a gentle curvature. I like this alot!

Very strong and very true. I am plagued with very nasty and prolonged seizures.I will think of your words to try and relax me and ease me out from their terrible effect. Very enjoyable. It seized me greatly in the nice way (ha ha !)

Oh, this certainly struck a chord. Lots of truth here. And I like the way you put this on the page.
