night falling by Mary Frances Spencerfumble in the dark
we grasp for the few straws left
tunneling fear with apathy
numbing mind-blowing news
with the prescriptive or addictive
shopping unsatisfied
artificial desires
we hang
on the edge
poised over raging waters
can we find
courage compassion
a way to soothe or heal
we must let go
plunge into the morning
stand up and swim
for dear life

Author's Note: It's been really hard to digest the news lately...so many disasters, wars, ...trying to figure out how I can help. MFS

Posted by Laurie Blum on 05/19/08 at 09:18 PM You provide a intense picture of how helpless we can feel sometimes. Nicely written. |
Posted by Alison McKenzie on 05/22/08 at 07:17 AM "we hang on the edge poised over raging waters"...it's just so powerful, the way you've conveyed the current world condition. It's part of why I am focusing on letting go of attachment to the material realm...
