The Perfect Phrases

by Elizabeth Hoadley

one sentence
two
maybe more

distinct words of creation
knocking at my door

those few moments of grandeur
as the artist inside peaks through
a curtain of tragic poetry
i saw as i soar

a mindless searching
for that perfect word
in hopes that the world may
open its arms to a voice
that could be heard

so many crowd the so little
in this game of cat and mouse

i catch a phrase, then draw a maze
as the meaning runs about

"distinct words of creation knocking at my door."--I really like that. And I'd be willing to guess you've answered at some point. Really enjoyed this.

...which soldier are you?...anyway, i love this taipse in poetryville, this is just a lovely as billy collins' 'intro to poetry'...i am awed with your line breaks...line breaks in poetry is like the "short" game in golf--that's one of the more important parts of either game...your poetry is bettered by a simple things such as line-breakage...gabriel ricard is a master at line breaks...and in stanz one, i was smiling...nice poetics...charlie
