She said she wanted a man

To love her, to understand

Who she really was.

I asked why. She said because

It was what she needed.

If I had only heeded

The warning.

Alarmingly

So,

What did I know?

She smoked

I choked

Through the date

Though it was too late

To leave. I left anyway

What more could I say?

She wanted a man.

I was not part of that plan.
