Let me find the word

by Maria Francesca

Let me find the word -
I haven't heard it yet -
or if I did,
I didn't know,
or managed to forget.

Let me find that word
and let me say it in your ear,
or let me paint the picture
that will make the message clear.

I find I have this ache -
and I believe you have it, too -
that urges me to act
but doesn't tell me what to do;

that says this world is ailing,
and there's so much here to fix
that can't be put to rights
with force or wealth or politics.

Let me find the word
and let me rise, then,
to my feet
to help repair our global heart
and mend its halting beat.

Our actions must come swiftly.
Our voices must be heard.
'Too Late' might come too quickly,
so let me find the word.
