There Were Signs by Anita MacDid I ever come to you
saying what I Needed you to hear?
It was like a fog kidnapped
it all to the back of my mind
and what came out...
What came out was always
pure intention
with no meaning,
so far beside a point
I could never remember
that it drove us to
the cracked plaster crater
beside my head--
my face--
my bleary red-rimmed eyes.
You sauntered back to the TV.
I slid down the wall
in a heap of self-pity,
refusing to believe in
the future I had glimpsed.
A brittle dent next to the side door,
Like some lame attempt at
foreshadowing.

Posted by V. Blake on 11/05/10 at 04:15 AM Everything about this is awesome, Anita. This is the kind of stuff I will never be able to produce myself, and that I am always amazed to see from others. That second-to-last stanza is sheer genius. |
