Dr. Caddy

by Barbara Griffith

There have been moments
when I flare up
and am only the colour
I admire the most.

These moments when I can't see
the girl I love
for the envy I embrace.

But always
unfailingly
and forever after
it gives way to a smile

She is going places.
And I can't wait to see where.

Green... I get green of you too. For the clarity and the sincerity... For the silly things like Barbarathy (That's Barbara and Timothy) and spending the day with small humans who adore you... Some people wouldn't smile after all that green. But think, one day you'll be seated at home in a rocking chair with a little red or brown haired baby looking up at you, sun shining through the windowpane, and I'll be elbow deep in someone's viscera at 2:00am on 3 hours sleep...
