Clockwork Desperations
by Nancy AmesEmpty as a dead balloon,
children's fear of fun,
can't be only standing-room,
must be room to run.
Trivial temptations,
single mothers wait,
clockwork desperations,
why is he so late?
Weaknesses untangle,
trying not to miss him,
in a dark triangle,
someone else could kiss him.
Jealous undercurrent,
don't look down or you'll fall,
who knows what he really meant
or if he cared at all.
