happy 1137

by Melanie J Yarbrough

you said I want you instead of I love you
you text me later,
not spelling out the "you"
leaving me hanging on one letter. Sitting on the curve of that
door handle, I am diminished
--a sideways crescent moon a
teacup from alice's wonderland, the shape of my
mouth when we're together the shape of my body as
I lift my legs to meet my chest, give in to the position of tiny babies
clinging to the inside for dear life not fully given but not yet
taken away.
