this is not a test.

by Melanie J Yarbrough

yes, I am watching it again
and with each silent beat of her breath against the camera,
I wonder if I should fight back
if I have chosen to lie down instead of showing you
what
--exactly--
you are to me.
I stop breathing,
she is certain that you love her,
that everything she writes about you is whole
and sure and padded
by the years you've been together-
years with skin and warmth and more
than simple poems
or messages or whispers.
I've told you I cannot compete with all of her years
on you,
but I haven't said that I want to.

and you haven't said that you want me to, either.

All the makings of a pretty definitive showdown, it would seem. Really great voice in this.
