A World Awake

by Maria Terezia Ferencz

dreaming thoughts
thoughts of how
whispers
whispers low spoke
how once
they lived
warm secure in homes

whispers murmurs
murmurs of how
words
words speak of need
for happiness
security
how to close the hole
created by inequity

struggling reaching
pleading wanting more
speaking
speaking
talks turned to screaming
still no one heard

deaf ears blind eyes
what is a mind for
misunderstanding
apathy
ignorance of a tragedy
sights outside your front door

remaining quiet
tongue tied with injustice
still they dream
of a time
of a world
awake
