Billy hollers at Buddha by Charlie Morgan
relaxing, while out my window is Billy Collins
talking incessantly at Buddha, Buddha grunts
as this shovelful of snow is getting heavier.
Billy throws a mouse at Buddha, he dodges and
that mouse is still in my pome, in a maze.
i could help him out but Billy said to let him.
i figure if i close this book and be on about
the full day, i could leave well enough alone
and then have no worries from Billy or Buddha.
i remind you, he's the one who brought Buddha
and so is responsible for all. now. ever.
this leaves Buddha free for the afternoon.
look at them: Billy hollering, Buddha tuning-out.
Billy's so red-faced. Buddha's shovel blade bends.
dusting his hands, he shoulder-shrugs Billy.

Posted by Ryan Nardi on 04/21/08 at 11:52 PM there's a great surreal/dreamy quality to this. the mouse trapped in the poem in a maze is a brilliant touch. it caught me by surprise but didn't distract me. well written top to bottom. |
