Falling Sideways by Sandy M. HumphreyFalling sideways
Just a little off kilter
Tripping over the edge
Heel catching
Feet twisting
Tried to balance
But no avail
I landed hard
Hands down trying
To catch myself
Shoulder jarring
Hip pounding
Knee banging
Ankle stinging
Thump and I am laughing
In a heap on my office floor
Others look at me in wonder
For they did not see me disappear
From view behind my desk
Just heard the noise and are
Now witness to this mess
Of clumsiness that is myself
On a Monday none the less
Sitting now and rubbing wrist
Wishing perhaps I had not tried
To catch my fall but that is instinct
I feel the pain in my hip
And the bruises crawling deep
Into my thigh threatening to reveal
Themselves later when I have settled
In my office chair for a long day of work
Upright now standing tall
Looking for the culprit that caused
My fall and seeing the corner of the chair mat
Turned slightly upward
I sense this is what happened
Heel caught and I moved but foot did not
And it could have happened to anyone
But it did not it happened to me
Dont mind me I am just here to work hard
And provide comic relief from time to time
By slipping off the edge of my seat
Dumping my work in the floor
Tripping over carpet if need be
Some people fall flat
on their face
But me
I
fall
